Vijay R. Nathan, recipient of Queens Arts Council New Works grant, will read from his soon to be published poetry collection entitled: "Celebrity Sadhana, Or, How to Meditate with a Hammer" at Queens Libraries in November and December 2017.

These poems imagine meditative moments from the sadhana (spiritual practice) of Hollywood's elite. His work builds on the wisdom traditions of the East to bring the hammer down on complacent notions about what it means to be spiritual in today's world. Featured in the collection are unauthorized appearances of the personas of Joaquin Phoenix, Natalie Portman, and Shia Labeouf, among others.

The author's previous work includes: Escape from Samsara, a collection of free-verse poems, that Kirkus Review found “ genuine and compelling, blending spiritual questioning with an engaging humor and using language that is by turns down-to-earth and lushly suggestive" .

This work is made possible in part by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
